Our Guardian Program

We started the guardian program to make sure our breeding mums have all the love, attention and care they deserve. After years of fine tuning we believe we have an excellent program that is very fair for Guardians and most importantly our very special mums.

What is a Guardian?

To become a guardian means to take in and eventually adopt one of our breeding mums. The guardian puppy will grow up in your home as a beloved pet and when of age return to our homestead to be mated (around 5-10 days at a time). She will give birth up to 3 times. Once she retires of her mummy duties we will transfer the ownership to you.

Responsibilities

  • To provide the guardian dog with the love and care she deserves, which involves a consideration of financial and time availabilities.
  • The transportation of the dog to and from our homestead for mating and giving birth whenever required.
  • Making sure the dog has all medical care needed.
  • We'll be taking care of all vet bills regarding the girls fertility, pregnancy and birth. The guardian should make appointments as needed and ensure they are met.
  • The guardian dog is not allowed to mate unless from us intended.
  • Last but not least the guardian is responsible to be truthful and inform us about any important developments.

So how does it work?

1

We'll have a chat to make sure all questions are answered, to discuss the agreement in detail and see if there are any puppies currently available for the guardianship program.

2

Once we're both happy and in agreement about the collaboration, you can come by to meet us and your puppy. We'll be ready with all the paperwork for you to sign after which you can take her home with you.

The cost of the puppy is $500 and the ownership of the dog will stay with us until she retires.

3

We'll be staying in contact and make sure she is happy and healthy and all her vet appointments are met. You as a guardian will be responsible for worming, flea treatment and all annual vaccinations. Any medical costs related to breeding and whelping will be covered by us.

4

You'll need to keep an eye on her to notice when she is coming into season. Don't worry, we'll explain what to look out for. When she comes into season for the second time and her pre-mating checks are all good, she'll have to be brought to our homestead within a certain amount of days, which is part of your responsibilities.

5

She'll be spending 3-10 days with us for mating, after which she'll be ready to come back home with you. You might not be able to tell if she is pregnant until the last few weeks of pregnancy and her day to day care stays the same for the most part.

6

She'll be ready to give birth 9 weeks after mating. You do have the option of whelping and raising the pups in your home, if we are comfortable with your ability to do so. We provide training and an online course. Otherwise the mother will return to us and stay with us until the pups are 8 weeks old.

7

After giving birth to a maximum of 3 litters your dog is ready to retire and will be desexed. As a thanks for the successful collaboration you'll have the choice of either keeping a puppy for yourself from the last litter she parents or receive $2500. Also we'll be transferring the ownership of the retired mum over to you.
